Here's a project to replace the lights under the  automatic transmission shifter indicator.  I replaced the special bulbs that are hard to find and expensive with the bulb holder from a license plate light.  It uses more common, less expensive bulbs.  Long term testing of this modification has not been done.  While I don't think there will be a problem, it is possible the bulb will get too hot and melt things in there.  The cupholders are from KMart, screwed to the shifter enclosure.
